Commissioned Works by Arthur Frackenpohl
Arthur Frackenpohl, Theta Iota (State Univiversity of New York – Potsdam) ’68, is a noted American composer and Professor Emeritus at the Crane School of Music at the State Univ. of New York at Potsdam, where he was initiated. He has had a distinguished composing career that features more than 250 works, various recordings and a textbook, Harmonization at the Piano, which is in use in many schools.
Among these pieces are three that were commissioned for the “Sinfonia Series,” which was a series of commissioned works by the SEF (then called simply the Sinfonia Foundation). The pieces, Three Short Pieces for String Quartet, Sonatina for Clarinet and Piano, and Toccata for Woodwind Quartet, are on file at the national archives. Any brother who is aware of a recording of any of these pieces is asked to contact the national headquarters, to help make our archives more comprehensive.
Below is a video recording of one of Frackenpohl’s pieces, a movement from a brass quintet.
